The
ISSF Skeet Claymate is as far removed from its early
ancestors as I am from a pound of cheese!
Sacrificing
the original models Trap Powered Status to use an external
supply is a requirement of the flexibility of this advanced
model.
Features
to support external lamps for ISSF target delays and
Low Target Warning indication increase the power requirement
beyond that capable of being drawn from the trap release
wiring and so the way you want to use the Skeet Model
dictates the size of the power supply.
In
its basic form, as a simple Skeet Controller, the power
requirement can be provided by dry cells or a small
plug top, calculator style power supply, or even the
nearest trap (up to 24 volts DC 12 volts AC)
The
Claymate can detect the presence of either trap and,
if none are connected, can warn you with a Morse Code
"SOS" saying "No Traps!".
ISSF
Lamps are driven from PSU mounted relays capable of
switching high current, low voltage lamps or 240 volt
mains filament lamps. The relays ensure that no high
voltages enter or leave the Claymate enclosure.
A
Low Target Warning output can optionally be used to
warn if either of the Skeet Traps are running low on
targets using the built in carousel counters for 280,
300, 360, 400, 5 (yes, five for testing) and OFF. Carousel
capacities for up to 1200 targets can be accommodated
to order. The warning is activated before the traps
run out altogether.
Optional
overlay boxes range from a simple switch for Skeet /
DTL to an "Intelligent" version that lets
the shooters select between Skeet and (either) a trap
or double trap discipline depending on how the range
is set up by the ground. This allows for traps that
can be switched to throw 2 targets to be accommodated
(and correctly counted). The Intelligent box also selects
the external acoustic release system for non Skeet disciplines.
if you have or intend to go acoustic.
Using
the Skeet Claymate as an acoustically driven DTL or
Double Rise controller (or even skeet!) is simply a
matter of connecting the trap to the Claymate and the
acoustic release (dry contacts) to the Claymate handset
connector.
The
Internal Audit Counter records targets thrown from the
High and Low side traps in separate independent
counters. I have been fascinated at the large difference
between the targets recorded as shooters shoot their
favoured range and shoot their favoured single target
option.
